Getting out and about within the community is a key aim of our service. Having a wheelchair van is an important tool that helps us achieve this for all of our people.
Recently, as we have welcomed new members to the Thumbs Up family and our total number of wheelchair users has increased. This makes it more challenging to support everyone’s needs in our one wheelchair van.
We have been working away to secure funding for an additional van and thanks to the generosity of the Pelorus Trust we have enough funding to put a deposit on a new van which is currently being fitted out by Milner Mobility.
To help us get the van operational, we are running several fundraising events which we hope the community will get in behind and support.
We have a Movie Night Fundraiser on 23rd August at the Lighthouse Cinema in Petone with a showing of Spiderman: Brand New Day. We are also selling raffle tickets which will be drawn on the night. Thumbs Up is participating in Z Energy’s Good in the Hood initiative at the Pito One Z Station on the corner of Jackson St and Hutt road. If you need to fill up between 18th August and 14th September, please pop into the Z Station and support Thumbs Up with a token in our box.
